The internet has become a priority channel for both consumers and healthcare professionals. Emerging technology is providing us the opportunity to rapidly share and classify knowledge, network with peers, collaborate on medical research, education and projects, all within the regular routine of our day from our laptop or smartphone. While only a few years ago the e-health physician was considered an early adopter, almost all physicians today integrate daily use of the internet into their practice of medicine. The Health 2.0 Revolution is well underway - with all of its benefits and pitfalls. What is Web 2.0?
In simple terms, Web 2.0 is the "interactive" web. The web we've come to know over the past 10+ years has been primarily focused on websites which broadcast information to the masses. The new web, or "Web 2.0" is about building knowledge collaboratively. While these core principles of knowledge, research and collaboration are fundamental to healthcare, they are not always easy to achieve - particularly with vast experience and expertise distributed across disciplines and geographies.
